Project Manager - Civils
Join JSM Group to design and install power, digital, and specialist networks that keep critical industries running — grow your skills, impact, and career with us.
You'll own the delivery of HV and EHV cable projects for network operators' new connections and network reinforcement schemes worth £500k to £5m+ from mobilisation to handover, safely, on programme and within budget.
ABOUT JSM
JSM Group designs and builds the power networks and digital infrastructure that clients across the UK, Europe and beyond depend on, from high-voltage grid connections and critical utilities to data centres and renewable energy. Our civil, power and digital engineers work under one roof, giving clients one team from design to energisation, with the technical, commercial and consenting risk managed from day one.
Belonging here isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Our values of personal responsibility, sound judgment and drive shape how we work, and you’ll get the work to stretch you and the support to develop fast. See life at JSM at careers.jsmgroup.com.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Power division's operations team, working closely with the Operations Senior Manager. You'll lead a delivery team of Site Supervisors, Project Coordinators and Project Administrators, working alongside Planners, Contracts Managers and Pre-Construction.
THE ROLE
This role makes sure each cable project is delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to quality. You'll be the client's main point of contact and manage the DNO, IDNO and statutory authority interfaces.
What you'll do
• Own delivery from mobilisation to close-out — programme, progress meetings, resources, materials and project documentation
• Manage the cost plan (CVR) and forecasts, and submit variations and compensation events with Contracts Managers
• Review subcontractor applications for payment and manage subcontract performance against scope
• Secure DNO/IDNO consents, approvals and outage programmes ahead of works
• Lead site safety under CDM 2015 through RAMS, inspections and audits, and run one-to-ones and reviews to develop your team
Good to know: regular UK-wide site travel with some overnight stays, plus flexibility for early starts and occasional weekends.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential
• 5+ years' project management in power, utilities or electrical infrastructure, delivering projects of £500k to £5m+
• Sound understanding of HV/EHV cable installation, jointing and termination, DNO/IDNO standards and outage planning, CDM 2015 and NRSWA
• Experience managing budgets, forecasts and CVRs under NEC3/NEC4 or JCT, including variations, early warnings and compensation events
• SMSTS, CSCS Black Card (Manager) or ECS equivalent, IOSH Managing Safely, and APM PMQ or equivalent (e.g. PRINCE2 Practitioner)
• A full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
Nice to have
• Experience on DNO framework contracts (e.g. UKPN, SSEN, National Grid)
• A cable jointing or electrical installation background
• NEBOSH General Certificate, or NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site or Project Management
• Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) and First Aid at Work (3-day)
• Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 or Asta Powerproject
You'll thrive here if you
• Take ownership of your projects from mobilisation to close-out
• Make structured, sound decisions under pressure
• Enjoy developing your team as much as delivering the work
• Are straight with clients and senior management about risk and programme
Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of, not just the list.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Pay & reward — competitive salary, performance-linked bonus and car allowance (where applicable), 4% matched pension
• Time off — 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
• Health & wellbeing — BUPA health cash plan, Benenden Health, employee assistance programme
• Career growth — funded training through our Training Centre and Competency Cloud, and support to keep developing
• Extras — electric car salary-sacrifice scheme
