Pre-Construction & Engineering Co-ordinator
Join JSM Group to design and install power, digital, and specialist networks that keep critical industries running — grow your skills, impact, and career with us.
ABOUT JSM
JSM Group designs and builds the power networks and digital infrastructure that clients across the UK, Europe and beyond depend on, from high-voltage grid connections and critical utilities to data centres and renewable energy. Our civil, power and digital engineers work under one roof, giving clients one team from design to energisation, with the technical, commercial and consenting risk managed from day one.
Belonging here isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Our values of personal responsibility, sound judgment and drive shape how we work, and you’ll get the work to stretch you and the support to develop fast. See life at JSM at careers.jsmgroup.com.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Pre-Construction & Engineering team at Potters Bar — the engineers, estimators and project managers who take projects from first enquiry through to construction start. You'll work day-to-day with project managers and estimators, and regularly with clients, local authorities and suppliers.
THE ROLE
This role makes sure every project leaves pre-construction with its documentation, permits, budgets and approvals complete, so construction can start on time. You'll report to the Head of Engineering, managing their diary and workload, and also support the Head of Pre-Construction.
What you'll do
• Prepare and maintain all pre-construction documentation, contracts, permits, drawings and specifications and the filing systems behind it
• Track project timelines so every document and submission lands on deadline
• Work with project managers and estimators to track pre-construction budgets and spend, produce cost reports and gather quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
• Secure permits and approvals from local authorities and agencies, and track compliance with safety and environmental requirements
• Schedule and run pre-construction meetings (agendas, minutes and actions) and act as the link between internal teams, clients and external stakeholders
Good to know: full-time and based at our Potters Bar office. You'll handle commercially confidential information, so discretion is essential.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential
• Experience coordinating or administering projects
• Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Confident written and verbal communication with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and project management software
• Discretion and sound judgement when handling highly confidential information
Nice to have
• Experience in a construction, engineering or utilities environment, ideally in pre-construction
• Familiarity with permits, consents or regulatory approvals, or with budget and cost tracking
You'll thrive here if you
• Take ownership of your work and your development
• Like bringing order to busy work and spotting problems before they hit a deadline
• Know that good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction
• Are straight with people about risk and programme, especially under pressure
Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of, not just the list.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Pay & reward — competitive salary, performance-linked bonus and car allowance (where applicable), 4% matched pension
• Time off — 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
• Health & wellbeing — BUPA health cash plan, Benenden Health, employee assistance programme
• Career growth — funded training through our Training Centre and Competency Cloud, professional memberships and support to keep developing
• Extras — electric car salary-sacrifice scheme
READY TO APPLY?
Click Apply and upload your CV; it takes around 5 minutes, and no cover letter is needed.
• What happens next: a call with one of our Talent Partners. If you're successful at that stage, we'll invite you to an interview with the hiring manager.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
JSM Group is an equal opportunities employer, and we welcome applications from everyone. Better engineering comes from bringing different experience into the same room, and every application is assessed on skills, experience and potential. If you need an adjustment at any stage of the application, interview format or assessment, tell us at recruitment@jsmgroup.com, and we'll sort it.
