THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Protection & Control Design Engineer with 3+ years of experience to support the delivery of substation projects from concept and detailed design through to procurement, construction and commissioning.

The role will involve working on HV/EHV substation projects, supporting protection and control design activities across a range of voltage levels. You will work closely with clients, DNOs, suppliers and other engineering disciplines to deliver technically compliant and high-quality designs.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Essential

• 3+ years of experience in Protection & Control design within HV/EHV substations.

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.

• Strong understanding of substation protection and control systems and protection principles.

• Experience in developing and reviewing Key Line Diagrams, Protection Schemes, Wiring & Termination Diagrams.

• Experience with protection relay selection and settings calculations.

• Good knowledge of CT/VT selection and calculations.

• Experience with protection panel GA drawings, multicore schedules and cable/termination schedules.

• Understanding of IEDs, protection relays and their operating principles.

• Experience reviewing supplier drawings and technical specifications.

• Ability to liaise effectively with clients, DNOs, suppliers and other engineering disciplines.

• Experience supporting IED testing, commissioning or factory acceptance testing (FAT).

• Ability to work independently and manage engineering activities in line with project budgets and schedules.

Nice to have

• Experience with HVDC and/or offshore wind farm projects.

• Experience across HV/EHV voltage levels up to 400kV.

• Knowledge of battery sizing and DC system calculations.

• Experience working with UK DNO standards and specifications.

• Experience using AutoCAD or other electrical engineering design tools.

• Experience attending supplier factories, site meetings and commissioning activities.
