ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Digital Infrastructure team, working across a wide range of civil engineering and utility contracts spanning gas, power, telecoms and multi-utility frameworks. These are long-term frameworks with major clients that give the team real stability and a strong pipeline of work.

You'll report to the Commercial Manager and lead the commercial side of your own portfolio of contracts. You'll work closely with operational and delivery leads on site and with the wider commercial function, and you'll support and develop the Quantity Surveyors and Assistant QSs around you. This is a senior role with real influence on commercial strategy, not just reporting.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role exists to drive the commercial success of our civil engineering and utility contracts. You'll own pre- and post-contract work from tender strategy and pricing through to final accounts, protect margin, manage contractual risk and make sure every project you lead delivers value for JSM and our clients.

Day to day, you will:

• Take full commercial responsibility for a portfolio of contracts or a framework, from award to final account

• Lead tender and bid submissions, including pricing strategy, commercial risk reviews, T&Cs and contract negotiations

• Manage client and subcontractor relationships at a senior level, including procurement strategy, subcontract placement, rate negotiations and dispute resolution

• Oversee monthly valuations, applications for payment, change control and NEC compensation events and early warnings

• Produce and present accurate CVRs, cost reports and forecasts to senior leadership, flagging risk and opportunity early

• Mentor and develop QSs and Assistant QSs, and set high standards for commercial systems, processes and recordkeeping

EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Significant pre- and post-contract commercial experience in civil engineering or utilities, including time at QS level running your own contracts

• A track record of managing subcontractor supply chains, negotiating variations and agreeing final accounts

• Experience producing and presenting CVRs, cost reports and forecasts on live contracts

• Experience managing change and compensation events under NEC contracts

Desirable

• Experience working within long-term frameworks or multi-utility contracts

• Experience line managing or mentoring junior commercial staff

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• Degree, HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar, or equivalent experience

• Strong working knowledge of NEC, JCT and bespoke contracts

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial tools such as Envision

• Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK

Desirable

• Chartered status or working towards it (e.g. MRICS, MCICES)

• NEC accreditation or other advanced commercial or contract training
