SCOPE OF ROLE
You will supervise the day-to-day delivery of civil works within Highways and within substations, with a strong focus on ducting and cable installation and the associated jointing and substation works. You will keep every activity on the ground in line with JSM/IDNO/DNO standards, safety rules and programme requirements.
This is a hands-on site role. You will run the works face — briefing gangs and subcontractors, controlling permits and points of isolation, checking quality as it is installed, and reporting progress to the project manager every day.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
· Supervise daily ducting and cabling works, delivered safely, on programme and to specification
· Run daily briefings and toolbox talks, allocating labour, plant and materials to the day's tasks
· Control permits to work, points of isolation and safe systems of work in live environments
· Act as the site point of contact for the client, DNO/IDNO representatives and subcontractors
· Supervise and support gangs, jointers and subcontractors, setting the standard for performance and behaviour
· Monitor progress against the programme and report daily to the project manager
· Carry out inspections, quality checks and ITP sign-off as works are installed
· Identify site risks and hazards, stopping work and escalating where standards are not met
· Keep site records up to date — diaries, timesheets, permits, as-builts and material records
· Support testing, commissioning and handover, including snagging and close-out documentation
WHAT IT TAKES
· Demonstrable experience supervising high-voltage cabling works on site, ideally upto 132kV and above
· Strong practical knowledge of ducting, cable pulling, jointing and substation civils.
· Proven experience supervising direct labour and subcontract gangs in live environments
· Experience working to permits, points of isolation and DNO/IDNO safety rules
· Clear communication, with the confidence to brief teams and challenge unsafe practice
· The ability to work from technical drawings, cable schedules, method statements and risk assessments
· Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and NRSWA requirements
· Sound judgement in fast-moving site situations, escalating promptly when needed
· Strong organisational skills, including accurate site records and daily reporting
· High attention to detail and safety awareness, with experience of high-risk works in live environments
ESSENTIAL
· Proven site supervision experience on up to 132kV (or higher) electrical works
· Strong background in Highways and substation works within DNO/IDNO environments
· SSSTS (SMSTS an advantage)
· SWQR Blue (Supervisor)
· CSCS / EUSR card
· First Aid at Work
· TWC/TWS certification
· Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and safe systems of work
· Experience with permits and points of isolation
· Competent IT skills
DESIRABLE
· NRSWA Supervisor (Streetworks) units
· IOSH Managing Safely, and confined spaces (medium risk) training
