THE ROLE

You’ll produce accurate, detailed pricing for multi-disciplinary schemes — cable installation, civils, reinstatement, utility connections, enabling works and specialist solutions such as HDD — giving us the confidence to bid sharply and deliver profitably.

What you’ll do

• Review tender documents, anticipate risk early and shape the bid strategy with colleagues.

• Build first-principles estimates in Causeway (and Excel) covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, traffic management and Local Authority fees — keeping cost models current.

• Gather the inputs behind a robust price — Gazetteer data, permits and restrictions from Street Works and Planning, quotations from Procurement, and outputs and programme from Delivery, including site surveys where needed.

• Compile tender submissions, issue and evaluate subcontract enquiries, and support final bid review and sign-off with senior managers.

• Lead pre- and post-tender commercial activity, from client clarifications to BAFO reviews, then hand won schemes over to the Delivery team and QS.

Essential

• Good knowledge of utility contracting and highways reinstatement

• A degree or HND/HNC in civil engineering or at least 5 years in a similar utilities-focused estimating role

• Strong numeracy and Excel skills, with a methodical eye for detail

• Clear communication and negotiation skills — able to turn complex information into clear, defensible estimates

Nice to have

• Experience of HV & EHV cable and civils installations up to 132kV

• Experience with Causeway estimating software (training provided if not)

• Experience pricing specialist civils such as HDD, or working to DNO G81 specifications; MS Project
