IT Apprentice
Join JSM Group to design and install power, digital, and specialist networks that keep critical industries running — grow your skills, impact, and career with us.
THE COMPANY
Established in 1998, JSM Group designs and installs the power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems that critical industries run on, from high-power grid connections and data centres to renewable energy. Our turnkey teams deliver complex infrastructure at speed, on time, and with reduced legislative, technical and commercial risk.
This is a great first step into a career in IT. As an IT Apprentice, you'll be the friendly first point of contact for colleagues across JSM, helping keep our laptops, software, networks and phones running so everyone can do their job. You'll learn on the job alongside our IT team while working towards your Level 3 qualification – no previous IT work experience needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
This role is the first step on a longer pathway. On successful completion of your Level 3, our plan is for you to progress onto a Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeship, deepening your networking expertise and taking on more responsibility as you grow with us.
What You'll Be Doing
Provide first-line IT support to colleagues in person, by phone, email and our ticketing system – logging, prioritising and tracking requests.
Diagnose and fix routine hardware, software and connectivity problems, and escalate anything more complex.
Set up, configure and hand over laptops, desktops, mobiles, printers and other equipment for new starters and projects.
Help manage user accounts, access and password resets under supervision, following our security policies.
Support our networks, Wi-Fi and cabling across offices and sites, and help roll out upgrades and new systems.
Keep the IT asset register and support documentation accurate and up to date.
Apply data-security and acceptable-use policies, helping keep JSM's systems safe and compliant.
Work safely at all times and follow health & safety appropriate to the task, including when working on different sites.
Complete your apprenticeship coursework and build your technical knowledge with our support.
What You'll Study
You'll work towards the Information Communications Technician Level 3 standard (ST0973), typically over around 18 months plus an end-point assessment.
Study is usually blended (day-release or online) with a training provider, with paid time set aside for your off-the-job learning.
You'll cover IT support and troubleshooting, hardware and software, networks and cabling, cloud basics, security and clear documentation.
If you don't already have Level 2 (GCSE grade 4/C) English and maths, you'll be supported to achieve these before your end-point assessment.
On completion you'll be eligible to register as an IT Technician (RITTech).
After your Level 3, you'll have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeship standard (typically around 24 months plus a 3-month end-point assessment), covering network specification and design, implementing secure networks, network optimisation, troubleshooting, and optimisation and testing
