Business Development Support Assistant
ABOUT JSM
At JSM Group, we are a leading specialist infrastructure engineering company. We design and install the complex power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems a future-focused worldwide marketplace needs — from high-power grid connections to critical utilities, data centres to renewable energy.
From High-Power grid connections to Critical Utilities. Data Centres to Renewable Energy, our full turnkey solution teams manage the full scope to help advise and deliver complex infrastructure projects at speed, on time and with reduced legislation, technical and commercial risks.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Business Development team, supporting the coordination of EHV (Extra High Voltage) cable and substation projects across transmission and distribution networks — working alongside our engineering and business development colleagues, and liaising directly with grid operators, utilities and major infrastructure clients.
Day to day, you'll work closely with engineers, project teams and the wider Business Development function to keep documentation, reporting and client correspondence moving, with the opportunity to build your technical knowledge of high-voltage infrastructure as you go.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a motivated and highly organised Business Development & Technical Support Assistant to provide administrative and coordination support to our engineering and business development teams. This role is primarily focused on keeping our EHV cable and substation projects running smoothly — managing documentation, correspondence, reporting and client liaison — with the opportunity to build technical knowledge of high-voltage infrastructure along the way.
This is an excellent entry point into the electrical infrastructure industry for someone with strong administrative or coordination skills who is enthusiastic about building a career in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. No prior technical background is required — full training and support will be provided to help you develop your industry knowledge over time.
Day to day, you will:
Manage and file engineering and business development correspondence, ensuring traceability and version control across project documentation systems
Liaise with clients, subcontractors and utility representatives to help coordinate and respond to information requests
Assist in the preparation of progress reports, project trackers and presentation materials for internal and client-facing meetings
Provide day-to-day administrative and coordination support to the Business Development department, working with clients on EHV cable installation and substation construction projects
Help prepare and organise documentation for Budget Estimates and Formal Offer applications submitted to the DNOs (Distribution Network Operators)
Support the team in assembling technical submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information) and technical PQQs (Pre-Qualification Questionnaires), under guidance from senior colleagues
Assist with organising and referencing high-level budget cost information for EHV cable installation and substation construction projects, working alongside more experienced team members
Help the engineering team keep track of relevant technical standards and reference materials, including ENA Engineering Recommendations and IEC/BS standards — no prior technical knowledge required, just an eye for detail and organisation
Be aware of, and follow, the Health, Safety and Sustainability (HSS) requirements relevant to your role
ABOUT YOU
You'll do well here if you recognise yourself in this:
You're hungry to grow and you take personal responsibility for your work and your development.
You're comfortable with complexity and you'd rather solve a hard technical problem than avoid it.
You work well across disciplines — you know good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction.
You use sound judgment under pressure and you're straight with people about risk and programme.
You're flexible, adaptable and highly motivated, with a genuine enthusiasm for building a career in the electrical infrastructure industry.
You work well independently and as part of a team, keeping organised and accurate under pressure to hit deadlines.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
Experience in an administrative, coordination or customer-facing support role, in any industry (experience within utilities, power or construction is a bonus, not a requirement)
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and comfortable learning new document management systems such as SharePoint
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams at once
Clear written and verbal communication skills, confident liaising professionally with engineers, clients and subcontractors
Desirable
Familiarity with EHV cable systems (132kV and above), substations, or transmission network projects
Exposure to a DNO, TNO, or ICP (Independent Connection Provider) environment
Awareness of relevant standards and regulations (e.g. ENA TS 09-12, G99, CDM 2015, BS 7671)
Any experience in quoting or costing
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable
City & Guilds 2304 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline — or an interest in working towards one
If you meet most but not all of the above, we'd still like to hear from you. We'll look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of, not just the list.
