SHEQ Advisor (Power)
THE TEAM
At JSM Group, our Power Division plays a critical role in delivering complex and high-voltage utility infrastructure projects. Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) are at the core of our operations. We are now looking for a proactive and experienced SHEQ Advisor – Power Division to support project safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across our expanding portfolio of power projects.
SCOPE OF THE ROLE
As a SHEQ Advisor – Power, you will provide expert guidance and support on all health, safety, environmental and quality matters across live power projects. You’ll work with operational teams to uphold high SHEQ standards, ensure compliance with NERS, and support key documentation, training, and reporting processes. This role will be primarily site-based with some travel across regions where JSM’s Power Division operates.
Please note this role will require travel to our sites in Cardiff & Somerset.
HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED
✔ Advising on SHEQ planning and promotion, contributing to safe and compliant working environments.
✔ Monitoring SHEQ performance on power contracts, supporting improvements in safety and environmental standards.
✔ Assisting with SHEQ documentation, including CPPs, QMPs, Risk Registers, RAMS, and Emergency Plans.
✔ Uploading and maintaining project data on JSM’s SHEQ management system (AppCan).
✔ Supporting the completion of PQQs and tender documentation from a SHEQ perspective.
✔ Ensuring team compliance with SHEQ policies, procedures and training requirements.
✔ Identifying SHEQ training gaps and supporting the development of staff awareness and competence.
✔ Investigating and reporting on incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences (RIDDOR compliance).
✔ Monitoring contractor SHEQ performance, ensuring alignment with JSM and client expectations.
✔ Ensuring compliance with NERS accreditation standards across all Power Division activities.
✔ Participating in site audits, inspections and toolbox talks, driving a positive safety culture.
✔ Engaging with operational teams in live substation environments to ensure safe working practices.
WHAT IT TAKES
🔹 3–4 years’ experience in a SHEQ role within utilities, civils, or construction (power sector preferred)
🔹 Proven experience working in live substations and within NERS-compliant environments
🔹 Excellent verbal and written communication skills
🔹 Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical abilities
🔹 Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive data
🔹 Ability to work well under pressure and across multiple sites
🔹 A flexible, dynamic, and self-motivated approach data
🔹 Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook
Qualifications:
📜 NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) – NEBOSH Level 6 (desirable or in progress)
📜 EUSR or CSCS card (relevant to role)
📜 NRSWA (SWQR)
📜 Working knowledge of HSG47
📜 Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
📜 Competent in incident investigation, reporting, and data analysis
📜 Optional: National Grid or DNO Competencies (preferred but not essential)
